Fostering an Inclusive Community

Spearheaded by the NWS Holdings Charities Foundation and the NWS Volunteer Alliance, our community investment strategy is designed to help us make connections with the community through impact-driven social investment. We leverage our business strengths and resources to optimise positive social impact through community services. Our community investment strategy aims to empower the next generation, foster a volunteer culture and promote environmental sustainability, and achieve these objectives through direct community engagement, nurturing and supporting social enterprise development and closer collaboration with our parent company, New World Development Company Limited.

To generate long-term benefit from our community investments, the Charities Foundation initiates programmes with multiple years of funding and resources with the objective of empowering the next generation, fostering a volunteering culture, and promoting environmental sustainability.

NWS Volunteer Alliance

Our volunteer team, the NWS Volunteer Alliance, has been devoted to use their talents and skills to serving underprivileged groups, including the elderly, single-parent families, at-risk youth, people recovering from mental illness, and those with intellectual disabilities.

Community Investment Strategic Focus

Youth Empowerment

The future of Hong Kong rests in the hands of today’s youth. At NWS Holdings, we aim to inspire tomorrow’s leaders of their career ambitions and be encouraged to make career plans. We have been partnering with NGOs to create opportunities and provide training for young people in Hong Kong. As such, they can be prepared for a smooth transition to the labour market after graduation. We also provide opportunities for children that can help them to develop positive life attitudes, elevate self-confidence, acquire new interest and skills, and cultivate creativity.

Volunteering Culture

Our community investment has evolved from our strong tradition of philanthropy and charity via volunteering. We emphasise skills-based volunteering, enabling us to leverage our skills and knowledge and share them effectively with the broader community.

Environmental Sustainability

We support environmental protection and strive to promote environmental awareness in the local community. We continue to partner with different environmental NGOs to reach out to the public in advocating the importance of environmental sustainability.

NWS EXP Journey

EXP stands for three key building blocks of the learning journey of teenagers: Explore, Experience and Experiment. We leverage our business ecosystem, across both NWS and the New World Group, to identify opportunities for a variety of career experiences for secondary school students in year 4 and 5, enabling participants to discover their strengths and interests. Launched in April 2021, NWS XP Journey, with a term of 18 months for each journey, provides a wide array of activities.

Partnership to repurpose waste materials

To minimize wastes from operations and to encourage upcycling, NWS Volunteer Alliance had partnered with St.James Settlement Jockey Club Upcycling Centre in organizing six workshops during the period from March to May in 2021. to upcycle wastes including wooden pallets collected from ATL, wine boxes, broken umbrellas and turned them into furniture, musical instruments and home decorations etc. The workshops had engaged a total of 180 participants, from our volunteers to underprivileged children. A bazaar to promote these upcycled products along with a few workshops, was held in July at D.Park to further engage with the public on resource conservation.
